The Works of Abraham Booth Vol. 2

Title: The Works of Abraham Booth Volume 2

Author: Abraham Booth (1734-1806)

Original Publish Date: 1813

The eighteenth century flooded the transatlantic world with short-form literature. Some of it contained terrible theology and, frankly, radical political philosophy. But in God’s kindness, he raised up men like Abraham Booth (1734–1806), a well-respected minister among the Particular Baptists in London, to contend with error from a foundation of biblical orthodoxy.

In this volume are three of Booth’s treatises, which serve as a beacon of truth in a whirlwind of confusion. Glad Tidings to Perishing Sinners (1796) is a strong call for faithful preaching in an evangelical mode. His Essay on the Kingdom of Christ (1788) is a powerful treatment of the relationship between the church and the state, a very pertinent message for contemporary Baptists. Finally, his Apology for the Baptists (1778) defends a consistent view of believer’s baptism as a necessary prerequisite for coming to the Lord’s Table.

Our prayer at Particular Baptist Heritage Books is that readers will come to see the value in Baptist fathers like Abraham Booth. Figures like Booth serve as senior conversation partners with wisdom to impart to us. We count it a great honor, and a tremendous stewardship to bring these perspectives back into print for today’s readers.
